Local multi-award-winning children's author officially opened new nursery

Little Trees Christ Church, the second Cheltenham based branch of Dean Close Little Trees Day Nurseries opened its doors to children on Monday 13th September. The official opening ceremony took place on Friday 1 October.

The ribbon was officially cut by Sally Grindley a local multi-award-winning children's author who has had more than 140 books published since 1985. Sally's wide-ranging body of work includes books for toddlers, picture books, young reading books and novels for pre-teens.

Sally’s most popular children’s books for young children are KNOCK KNOCK WHO’S THERE? - illustrated by Anthony Browne, SHHH! - illustrated by Peter Utton and WHY IS THE SKY BLUE? - illustrated by Susan Varley.

Sally performed some excellent readings during the event for pre-schoolers at both Dean Close Airthrie and Little Trees.

The author comments: ‘As a former very happy parent of Dean Close School pupils - my twin sons attended from the ages of 11-18 - I was delighted to be asked to open the school’s Little Trees Christ Church Nursery. I now have a two-year-old granddaughter and am very aware of how important the early years are in a child’s life and how a good nursery can play a vital role in their happiness and well-being. I’m sure Little Trees will excel in that role.'

David Lloyd "The Music Man" a successful and experienced children's entertainer, fully qualified drama and primary teacher, actor and professional musician also was present during the afternoon for the parents, guests and children to enjoy in the beautiful nursery grounds.

Invitees included Dean Close Foundation Trustees, Jason Dobbie, Dean Close Airthrie Headmaster and Little Trees Christ Church parents.

Each child received a personalised book from Sally Grindley to mark the occasion.

The new nursery is for children aged 0-4 and is based at Dean Close Airthrie School which has recently been acquired by Dean Close Foundation.

Dean Close Foundation have experience in setting up 52 week per year nurseries within other Foundation Schools; including Dean Close St John’s, where the nursery has proven to be a major feeder to the school, giving a natural opportunity for children to get to know the surroundings, facilities and personalities that make each school unique.

Little Trees Area Manager, Charlene Burgess said: “We are so excited about opening our newest nursery, Little Trees Christ Church this September. I am thrilled to be expanding our provision to care for babies, toddlers and preschool children in a warm, welcoming, and stimulating learning environment such as Dean Close Airthrie School"
